Parknasilla Resort

Sneem, Ring of Kerry

Everything about the traditional Parknasilla Resort is impressive. Firstly, there is its perfect location on the Ring of Kerry, overlooking Kenmare Bay. Then there is the sheer size of the complex, which was built at the end of the 19th century and has certainly been extended several times. Last but not least is the impressive volume of the (Eliza) Doolittle Restaurant. Families with children must love this hotel. My neighbours at the next tables had seven and four kids respectively. I imagine it was a little quieter in the days of George Bernard Shaw, a frequent guest in the early 1900s. But hey, never mind. The resort really does offer plenty of places to retreat to. For example, it has its own 9-hole golf course, which I didn’t play on, but which looked very nice. The same goes for the fine-dining restaurant called Pygmalion, where breakfast is served. Next time, I’ll probably eat there. Although the cheerful children were great, too. Let’s see.
