Reay

Reay Golf Club was founded in 1893 as a 12-hole course on land made available by the Pilkington family of Sandside. James Braid redesigned and extended it to 18 holes in 1933, making Reay his most northerly course. The club fell into decline during the Second World War and closed entirely in 1940, only to be revived by the local community in the early 1960s. It holds the distinction of being the most northerly 18-hole links course on the British mainland.

Think of the most remote place you can imagine. But also one of the most beautiful, except for the nuclear power plant around the corner maybe: This is Reay Golf Club with some really great holes. My favorite: The dramatic 7th. A par 3, which mercilessly punishes any shot that doesn’t land on the green.
